The township economy has been beaming with potential for years, however those who have gone on the journey to truly unearthing this great treasure have been stuck in trying to label what it is as opposed to understanding this economy.
To truly understand one has to be willing to embrace an alternate perspective on life an opportunities, to be able to recognise the abundant opportunities available for corporate South Africa to meaningful integrating with the township economy, our communities, and beyond. Officially, the township economy contributes 5.2% to the nation’s GDP, yet this figure is far too conservative, as it does not fully encompass the vast informal economy, which operates largely undocumented. It’s my strong belief that the township economy’s true contribution exceeds 10% of the country’s GDP. To seize these opportunities, it’s essential to collaborate intentionally with the dynamic stakeholders active in this space. By fostering a united, inclusive approach, we can cultivate a thriving and cohesive township economy through the support of small businesses as economic drivers and enablers of commerce activity.
Its not about re-inveting the wheel but rather operating from a place of understanding so that we fully unlock our understanding of the Township Economy.
Unlock the potential of the township economy—let’s work together to make a lasting impact.
